Bootstrap Business Blog Blitz Quick Questions Vol 8

It's my pleasure to continue answering your questions on social media marketing, entrepreneurship, and more! Enjoy my latest installment of Bootstrap Business Blog Blitz Quick Questions:

I work in retail what should I do if I feel like the store is about to close.? I don't know if they are closing the store and I'm worried about my retail job. The only reason I got it was to expand my online website; I have 3 different online businesses now. What should I do to insure I can live comfortably for the rest of my life? I'm 20 and currently go to college online.

Retail company’s are going bankrupt every month these days so you should certainly be preparing to switch companies or career paths. That’s good that you have several online businesses but it doesn’t sound like any of them are supporting you financially yet. Also good that you’re taking college courses as well. There are plenty of other entry level jobs you could get, or better yet internship positions, to keep you busy in the meantime. There are no guarantees to living comfortably for the rest of your life but I would suggest educating yourself on growing positions/industries and steer clear of traditional retail stores like Sears, Radio Shack, JC Penny, etc that are closing permanently. Then make sure you work hard, adapt, and perform at the top percentage of your field.

Should I have a public or private Instagram account? I am worried about people using my pictures etc.

I’m going to keep the answer very simple: If you are using Instagram for business purposes you need to make it public. If you are using Instagram for personal use then you probably should keep it private if you have any doubt in your mind. If you need to have 1 private personal account and 1 public professional business account that is usually the best of both worlds (1 in your name, 1 in your business’ name… you can’t have more than 1 in your name or it will violate Instagram’s terms). Also I wouldn’t say that Instagram is safer than Facebook. They are both very safe but you still might have to deal with fake profiles, potential trolls, or people trying to log in to your account. That is the case for any platform or program.

Why do so many people fail with internet / online / digital marketing?

As you may have heard before, “if it was easy, everyone would be doing it”. While not everyone does embark on an internet marketing quest, there are many people trying because the barrier to entry is very low with free social media platforms, blogs, YouTube channels, and email marketing platforms (Mailchimp). If anyone thinks it’s easy, they will have a very rude awakening. Now more than ever the competition is fierce, global, and growing daily. If you are just joining the party and don’t have experience then it will be a gargantuan task to catch up to other established internet marketers and corporations. There are so many opportunities to excel at internet marketing but it takes a lot of hard work in a growing but now more congested arena.

How can I post a picture to Facebook with multiple links?

You would need to put the second, third, etc hyperlink in the text description of the post. You could also easily link to a web page that contains a menu of several links that you’d like the website visitor to choose from.

How long before Google removes a deleted tweet from search results?

I would first delete your browsing history and empty your cache just to make sure that you aren’t seeing it for that reason, when it is no longer actually appearing in search results for other Google users. If I’m on a PC and waiting to see website updates etc I will hit F10 and then right click on the refresh button, choosing Empty Cache & Hard Reload. Or you could try that same search of your name from a computer / browser / browser that you haven’t used before and see if you get the same search results. You’ll probably find it isn’t there any longer. I hope it goes away quickly for you, but in the meantime it can’t hurt to promote your positive professional social media pages and/or websites so that those results rank much higher than a tweet.

Should Snapchat team up with Twitter to provide live local snaps?

That is a very interesting thought I haven’t heard yet. I don’t disagree that at some point it might be smart for Snapchat to acquire or partner with another social network or chat application. Why would this red hot company even have to think about resorting to a measure like that? It’s because Facebook is absolutely going for Snapchat’s jugular with their successful rollout of Instagram “Stories” last summer and status updates in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. It’s tough to go up against these enormous platforms with over 2 billion users worldwide, vast financial resources, and the ability to copy any popular platform capabilities.

That all being said, I don’t think Snapchat will partner with an existing established social network. It’s almost a guarantee they won’t partner with the stagnant / declining Twitter which has none of the “cool” factor that Snapchat’s Gen Z & Millennial users find so important. I’m just as interested in the future of Twitter as I am with Snapchat. Twitter has been considered by large companies in the past like Microsoft (they opted for LinkedIn) and Salesforce but nothing has come out of it yet. What the future holds for red hot Snapchat and struggling Twitter over the next couple of years will give us a lot of insight into the future of social media for the next couple of decades.

Is Kevin O'Leary from shark tank really just a sensitive teddy bear deep down? Is his cold-hearted demeanor just a facade for the cameras or is that really him?

Mr Wonderful Kevin O'Leary is definitely a cold-blooded Shark through and through, but at least his cards are on the table. He doesn't pretend to be a nice guy for the camera and rip people apart when the show is over. There's something to be said for that.

Keep asking your questions and I'll keep answering!
