Harry Harrison, a long-term employee of some of the world's most prestigious financial institutions, is most widely known for his recent stint with Barclays Non-Core as its head of operations from 2014 to 2017.

Mr. Harrison was not fired from his post. Rather, Barclays Non-Core was slated to close in 2017, a move that was laid out upon the foundation of the Barclays subsidiary company in 2014. Prior to getting moved to the head leadership position at Barclays Non-Core, Mr. Harrison had served Barclays for upwards of two decades.

What Does Mr. Harry Harrison's Early Career Look Like?

After graduating from high school, the young Harry Harrison enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree program at the University of Warwick. In just three years of attendance, Harry completed the program with a major in economics.

Immediately after showing the economics program at the University of Warwick who its proverbial daddy was, Mr. Harrison applied to, was accepted to, and enrolled in the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious universities across the entirety of the United Kingdom.

Harry began taking courses along a general finance track as part of the University of Cambridge's economics-focused Master of Philosophy program. In 1989, just four years after starting college at the University of Warwick, Harry Harrison was proud to have a master's degree of philosophy with a major in finance from one of the best business schools across the entirety of the United Kingdom.

Here's Where Mr. Harrison's Professional Career Kicked Off

After a rigorous, highly-competitive interview process, Harry Harrison was officially brought on board Barclays Investment Bank as a derivatives trader. He started working there in September 1989.

Mr. Harrison remained in the role for just over a decade at the derivatives trading department of Barclays Investment Bank without any promotions. His persistence paid off, being hoisted upward to the position of Managing Director. Beginning in December 1999, the month he was promoted, he began overseeing the company's trading of securities backed by the United Kingdom's federal government, effectively betting on the country's exchange rate changes.

He was also made responsible for the oversight of foreign currency swaps and the Medium-Term Foreign Exchange program of none other than Barclays Investment Bank itself. Mr. Harrison also built a small but profitable business that was incorporated as a subsidiary under the umbrella of Barclays Investment Bank's business entity ownership portfolio. The business dealt exclusively in the trading of securitized derivatives, a complex type of security that is made up of several types of assets and intended to meet the specific needs of their issuers.

It's Promotion Time!

After four years in his position as Managing Director, he was again promoted in January 2003. Mr. Harry Harrison was responsible for leading the company's rates trading operations across Europe, its home country of the United Kingdom, and the United States.

From this point onward, Mr. Harrison readily moved up the company's corporate ladder.

Why Did Mr. Harrison Leave Barclays?

As part of the company's 2014 agreement with Harry, Barclays Investment Bank decided to award Mr. Harrison with a substantial severance package and bonus as a potential reward for successfully handling part of the $110 billion in business investments that Barclays Non-Core was responsible for phasing out of the company's ownership all while turning a profit. Mr. Harrison met the company's requirements for the severance package and bonus, giving up plenty of money to take off from Barclays.

What Does Harry Harrison Do In A Day's Time?

The parent of two sons, aged six and nine years of age, Harry Harrison enjoys splitting his time between his pair of highly-active boys and private consulting roles he's hired for.
