5 Things To Do Differently If You Want To Earn More Money

things do differently earn more money increase income

Getting uncomfortable is a part of growing up. If you never change the way you do things, then you’ll never change the situation you’re in. This fact is true in life and work. If you want to earn more money, then you’ll have to do things differently. Not only you have to make the change but you also have to continue to change even when obstacles arise because perseverance is what creates change. In a commencement speech at Northwestern, Barrack Obama told graduates,

“Transforming the world is difficult. On the off chance that it were simple, everyone would do it. Be that as it may, it's definitely not. It takes tolerance, it takes responsibility, and it accompanies a lot of disappointment en route. The genuine test isn't whether you maintain a strategic distance from this disappointment, since you won't. it's whether you let it solidify or disgrace you into inaction, or whether you gain from it; regardless of whether you decide to continue on.”

The first step on how to earn more money is to set and creating goals and making necessary changes to reach them. Gail Sheehy said it best, “In the event that we don't transform, we don't develop. On the off chance that we don't develop, we aren't generally living.”

1. Create Goals

Many of us live life day by day. We avoid that sinking feeling that we’re wandering in circles and getting nowhere. We don’t want to admit that we’re actually a little lost. Many recent graduates can understand this feeling. It’s called the Quarter-life crisis. The smart way to face this crisis is head on. The first step to overcome the quarter-life crisis is to create a goal and do whatever it takes to reach it. By creating goals we give ourselves something to focus on. Many recent graduates feel lost because there is no schedule or grades or set plans for you like the school system we have grown so accustomed to.

Right now, you’re stuck at another retail job. You show up to work and when your shift is over you clock out. You go home, take a shower, and sit on the couch watching Netflix. Before you know it, it’s midnight and time for bed. You repeat this process day after day.

As you’re reading this, you realize that you’ve actually spent over five months of your life doing this exact thing. You want more money but you’re doing nothing to reach that goal. In order to earn more money, you’ll have to put in more effort. Start by writing down short-term goals and long-term goals. Once you have written down those, go on to #2.

2. Make A Plan

Make a plan. List out the steps you need to accomplish in order to reach your goals. Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry is famous for saying, “A goal without a plan is simply a wish.”

Nothing is given to you in life. You have to work for it. So make a plan, follow the steps, and reach your goals. Walt Disney went through many struggles before reaching success. Teachers and peers repeatedly told him that a story about a mouse would never take off. Now, Disney is a multi-billion dollar industry and Mickey Mouse is an iconic figure. To inspire other young kids around the world he said, “If you dream it, you can do it.”

3. Always Strive To Improve Yourself

If you’re looking for a job, you have to know your worth. What can you contribute to the company? To increase your worth and your chances of getting hired, be an expert in your field. When you spend a few minutes everyday learning a new skill or brushing up on old skills, you’ll see a vast improvement in yourself. Then, when you’re offered the job you can be confident in your ability and be comfortable negotiating a salary with your employer.

Or if you’re looking to start your own business it’s important to never stop improving yourself and to never stop learning new things. When you’re always learning and keeping up with trends then you can be ahead of your competitors. You can see where business is heading and take advantage of it before your competitors even see the value of it. By staying ahead, your business can flourish. But when you’re behind, playing catch-up is risky and normally a track for failure.

Learning to improve your-self isn’t a time-consuming task. It can be 30 minutes a day. For example, you can watch a TED talk, read a few chapters of a book, or read a few articles online. All of these things can help educate you and keep you informed about the latest and greatest.

4. Don’t Go Into Debt

Going in to debt is the exact opposite of earning money. Be good with money and save it. This is one skill every entrepreneur has mastered. If you allow yourself to go in to debt then you won’t make money because you’re constantly paying off someone else and making someone else rich.

Make a budget and stick to it. Live below your means so that you’ll have money saved for unforeseen situations in the future. Once you’re in debt its hard to get out. Interest and monthly payments will get you stuck in a cycle where you’ll be living paycheck to paycheck while struggling to make ends meet. To make a budget for yourself, list out your bills and how much they are. Subtract this amount from your paycheck. Whatever is left of your paycheck split it in half. Put one-half in to your savings account and the other in to a rainy day account. This rainy day account can be money saved towards a splurge item or a short weekend getaway. At the end of the year, you’ll have savings and a little money to play with.

5. Be MORE

At work, you should strive to be more than just an employee. Take pride in your work. Don’t just clock in and clock out at work. Make yourself present. Don’t let people walk by you and not notice you. Do the best you can at whatever job you have to do. Once you start doing this, people will start noticing.

Now, you need to inspire others to do the same. Be a mentor for a co-worker or student. A part of earning more money is getting your-self in to a better situation. When you’re able to mentor and train others, you’re demonstrating management skills. When backed up by hard work, these skills speak volumes.

When you’re more than just an employee and you do more that what’s necessary, you’ll earn more money because hard work and dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. When you care about something and work hard to achieve your goals, people notice and feel that confidence and passion.

When you work harder and inspire others to do the same then you’re setting the pace as a leader and showing management skills. These skills are valuable for a promotion, a new job, or opening your own business. Remember, in order to make more money, you’ll have to work harder. So make an effort to start now.

Make The Changes To Make More Money

If you want to earn more money, then you’ll have to make some changes. Don’t overwhelm yourself by making multiple changes at one time. Start with one and keep adding one more every month.

When you overwhelm yourself with changes you’ll never get anything done. You’ll feel stressed out and you’ll be quickly burned out. So, take things one-step at a time. In five months, you’ll see the changes in yourself and be more prepared for a better situation such as a new job, a promotion, or your own business. Whatever you decide to do, these five things will help you become more driven, focused, and dedicated to your dreams and passion in life.
