The Art of Repurposing Office Equipment and Supplies

Let’s face it, as a frugal business you’re tight on money. If possible, you’d love to spend absolutely nothing on your computer hardware and office supplies so that you have an easier time making profit from your company. Getting started is expensive and buying all of the gear you need to promote your company can be ridiculously expensive which is why we turn to repurposing or upcycling.

How Do You Repurpose Or Upcycle Office Equipment And Supplies?

Here are just a couple of examples of what you can do to repurpose equipment and supplies in your office. There are many creative ways to do so, but here are just a couple of ideas:

• Using second-hand desks and chairs as part of your office instead of getting an overpriced matching set
• Using large slabs of wood from shelves and cupboards and repurposing them into desks
• Taking old computer monitors and using them as secondary screens or monitoring stations
• Stripping fans from old broken computers and using them to cool demanding hardware like a server rack
• Collecting up common USB and other computer cables to charge various devices even after the original devices have stopped working or broke

These are just a few examples of how you can repurpose things in your office. It takes a lot of work to truly refurbish something old in order to upcycle it, but there are entire businesses devoted to the repair of old furniture and you can often pick up a fantastic bargain for your money. While it might not give off a fantastic first impression for investors and new employees to see your business using a mixed variety of furniture, it’s certainly the way to go if you want to make some generous savings.

Finding Ways To Reuse Equipment Or Repurpose Items

It takes a keen eye to spot alternative uses for certain pieces of furniture. For instance, hospital computer carts on wheels are typically carted around rooms so that doctors can access patient records and other similar statistics and detailed information for the sake of convenience. Although their purpose is to give doctors a quick and easy way of editing and pulling out records, they can also be used as highly-mobile computer desks which would fit perfectly in a busy environment not unlike a hospital.

Reusing Computer Hardware & Technology

As already mentioned, it’s possible to reuse certain computer components and items such as cables. This is an incredibly common method of reusing parts that are still perfectly usable. While items like cables are easy to identify and use, the same can’t be said for the components inside. It takes an expert to know what parts can be used or reused due to the nature of computer technology, but having a tech expert on your team can drastically reduce the amount of money you spend on computer hardware and software thanks to the ability to repurpose components.

In short, there are many ways to reuse office supplies and equipment in order to save a lot of money on your operating costs.
