Simple Ways To Make A Small Business Eco-Friendly

With many businesses out there, perhaps within your industry and niche, it is important to differentiate yourself from the competition. Not only that, a small business has more chance of failing in the first few years than becoming successful and one of the reasons can be the financial aspect. This is why more small business owners are considering how they do business in their office space and how they source their energy. This can also help reduce costs. I thought I would share some of the simple ways you can make your business more eco-friendly.

Replace outdated equipment for more energy efficient alternatives

Some equipment that you could be using on a daily basis may not be as efficient as they can be. With technology advancing all the time it can soon become apparent when your equipment that you use suddenly becomes outdated and tired. Using less equipment or more efficient equipment not only helps the carbon footprint of your business but also can keep those spiraling energy costs at an all time low.

Recycle old equipment the right way

However, if you are serious about your green principals and making your business more eco-friendly, then you must ensure that any equipment that you do replace is recycled in the right way. Thankfully, there are companies that specialize in electronics recycling to ensure that the equipment is handled in the right way. This ensures that you feel comfortable knowing that your equipment has been handled in the right way.

Look at replacing light bulbs in the business premises

There are far more energy efficient light bulbs that you can use. If you think about how many you may have in your business that could be a huge saving to your company if you consider changing them to more energy efficient bulbs like LED. It isn’t a huge cost initially but can offer you mega savings on your energy usage, considering how long a light may be switched on for.

Encourage staff to recycle general items If you are serious about being green, then you need to ensure that your staff on board. One way to do that is to encourage your staff to recycle the general items like plastic bottles. However, you can’t just assume they will recycle, without making it easy for them. So a simple change like adding recycling bins to any rest areas could be a great way to encourage the staff to keep up the momentum of recycling.

Power the office with an alternative energy source

Finally, you could always consider alternative energy sources for powering any office and workplace you have. Perhaps considering solar energy as another way to power the workplace computers and lighting. This could considerably reduce your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint.

Of course, there are other things you can consider like using hybrid company vehicles or encouraging the use of public transportation. However, it all depends on how far you want to take the green purpose. I hope these tips help you to get started with making your small business more eco-friendly.
