Living at home and working at home can be amazing, because you don’t have any interruptions, you never get stuck in traffic, and if you want to have a power nap in the middle of the day you can!
However, there may come a moment when being at home just isn’t cutting it any longer. Your workspace may be limited, maybe you want some human interaction- or you might just need extra equipment for the business. Deciding to move to an office space is a big move, and it can be a little daunting if you haven’t worked outside your home for a long while.
There are multiple reasons you may decide that working in the house just isn’t cutting it anymore, and these are some examples of when you’ll know it’s time to move onto the greener pastures of offices.
Distractions
Although for some, working alone at home is the perfect remedy, because it avoids being distracted by other people as you try to work; there can still be a lot of distractions at home. When you are at home it’s very easy to set up your laptop in front of the TV, and get immersed in the shows as you work. Or maybe you’ll remember that the washing needs to be set off, so you’ll go off and do chores around the house. Merging work life and home life in this way is beneficial in some ways, but can hinder the amount of work you get done. If you can no longer focus for the full 8 hours of the day, it might be time to look at an office. ·
Loneliness
Not everyone works well alone, and you may often find yourself leaving the house to run errands and talk to people in the street. If you feel like you are sinking into an antisocial spiral, you may want to get an office space. However, if you are happy enough listening to the radio getting on with your work, feel free to stay at home.
Development
There will come a time where one pair of hands just isn’t enough. Although you could hire someone remotely, having that work colleague bond is much more effective and will allow growth and development in your business.

Once you’ve found the perfect little office space, you can begin to write a list of everything you need, sketch out where you want everything and look into hiring staff. It can be a very long process so don’t be surprised if you still spend a lot of time working from home in the first few months. You might want to redesign the space before you hire local movers to get everything into your new space. Just remember to enjoy the process and make that office into a second home.
